CX500
1978-83

497cc OHV 8-valve V2-cylinder with shaft-drive.

Strange styling at first but an extremely advanced engineering design with a V-twin liquid-cooled powerplant driving the rear wheel via shaft-drive. 

Only the second Honda model, to the GL1000 Gold Wing, to feature a liquid-cooled engine.

- First model.
- 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels.
- Twin front disc brakes with drum rear brake.
- Twin shock rear suspension.
- One of Honda's first models to feature ComStar wheels.

1979 CX500-Z
- Minor amendments.

1980 CX500-A
- Minor amendments.
- Fly-screen added.

1981 CX500-B
- Cosmetic changes.
- Reverse style black ComStar wheels.

1982 CX500E Euro Sport
- Revised model with new European styling design.
- Handlebar mounted cockpit style fairing.
- Pro-link rear suspension.
- Rear disc brake.
- 18-inch front & rear wheels.
- New style ComStar wheels.

Other variants of the CX500 range included: Custom, Deluxe, Silver Wing and Turbo models. For Japan, 400cc versions were made available.

In the UK the CX500 became very popular with dispatch riders.

CX650E Euro Sport
1983-85

674cc OHV 8-valve V2-cylinder with shaft-drive.

Replacing the CX500 in 1983 with an increased engine capacity and overall performance, the CX650E was almost identical in design to the CX500E model but now with black finish engine and new colour schemes.
