NS400R
1985-87
387cc 90° liquid-cooled V3 two-stroke producing 72hp @ 9,500rpm
A street-legal race-oriented two-stroke sports bike produced in limited numbers from 1985 to 1987. The NS400R was inspired by the factory HRC NS500 GP bike as ridden by World Champion Freddie Spencer.
Also available in the works Rothmans colours the NS400R featured a box-section aluminium frame with the engine rubber mounted.
The high-tech V3 engine incorporated Honda's ATAC (Auto-controlled Torque Amplification Chamber) that boosted power throughout the rev-range.
In 1985 just 300 NS400R's were formally imported in to the UK. 200 in the red/white/blue tri-colour and 100 in the blue/white Rothmans livery. The Rothmans models came with a sticker kit from the factory for new owners to apply as they wished. For the Japan home market the Rothmans stickers were pre-applied.
A collectors model today demanding around £10,000.00 for a good original example.
