Dream CB750 Four
1969-78
736cc SOHC 4-cylinder with 4-carbs, 4-exhausts and electric start.
The motorcycle that created the term... 'Superbike'
First seen at the October 1968 Tokyo Motor Show, then at the January 1969 Las Vegas dealer meeting followed by the April 1969 Brighton Motorcycle Show, the CB750 set the motorcycling world alight with its size, high specification and performance. The CB750 was an instant success!
A direct development from the company’s racing technology, this model took Honda into the big-bike market. The 125mph CB750 Four had many new features and was the first production motorcycle to be equipped with a front disc brake.
In the beginning, Honda saw the CB750 as a prestige flagship model but had no idea how many would be in demand. So production of the engine crankcases saw the use of sand-casting which was low-cost but slow! To then meet the following high demand the factory switched to the more expensive but quicker die-casting. The first c.7,400 units of the CB750 were produced with sand-cast crankcases and these examples demand the highest values today as collectors models, reaching over £25,000 at Auction.
With annual enhancements the SOHC CB750 Four remained in the Honda range for 10 years with over 400,000 units produced prior to the launch of its successors, the 1979 CB750K and CB750F DOHC Fours.
